“Do the Right Thing“ at The Varsity on Friday, Aug. 6
CARBONDALE – In anticipation of the release of Spike Lee’s Cannes-winning upcoming film “Blackkklansman” coming out Aug. 13, The Varsity will show Spike Lee’s classic film “Do the Right Thing” Friday Aug. 3 at 7 p.m.
On the hottest day of the year on a street in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, racism and bigotry smolders.
The film received numerous accolades, including Academy Award nominations for Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Aiello’s portrayal of Sal the pizzeria owner. Do the Right Thing is listed on the top 100 American Movies ever made by the American Film Institute.
The Varsity will show “Do the Right Thing” at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3.
Tickets are $5 and are available in advance at www.thevarsitycenter.org. Tickets also will be available at the venue on the night of the show when doors and the bar open at 6:30 p.m. The Varsity Bar features beer, wine, select cocktails, non-alcoholic beverages, snacks and popcorn.
“Do the Right Thing” is rated R for adult situations and language, sex and graphic violence. Anyone under 17 requires an accompanying parent or adult guardian.
