Film: Wild Tales
October 25, 2018 @ 7:00 am - 9:00 pm$5 – $7
The Varsity will show the Argentine hit comedy “Wild Tales” on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.
Six linked tales begin with a slight or terrible transgression and end in calamitous and hilarious acts of revenge and come-uppance. In the story “La Bombita,” a demolition expert loses his cool when his car is towed. In “El más fuerte” a poor man and rich man are locked in a battle of class conflict and road rage. In “Pasternak,” a strange coincidence portends the ultimate act of revenge. And in “Hasta que la muerte nos separe,” a jealous bride wrecks her wedding to save her marriage.
Argentine director Damián Szifron explains that the tales are tied together by “the fuzzy boundary that separates civilization from barbarism, the vertigo of losing your temper, and the undeniable pleasure of losing control.”
“Wild Tales” developed a critical following at festivals like Cannes and Toronto. It opened in Argentina in August 2014 and quickly became the all-time highest-grossing Argentine film in Argentina.
