Opening and Artist Reception
5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov.9
Free Admission / Bar Open
Unless we are awake in the middle of the night in some of Southern Illinois’ most beautiful places, few of us have seen our world as captured by Matt Linsin.
Linsin, of Carterville, is a nightscape and nature photographer with 20 years of creative leadership in Southern Illinois. His photography is so amazing it has been featured on the Star Talk Facebook page of Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson.
His work will be exhibited at The Varsity in downtown Carbondale from Nov. 9 through Dec. 9. The exhibit will be available to view during all events at The Varsity.
Linsin launched “The Darkest Night” collection in 2018, highlighting photographs of recognizable local landmarks at night. The assortment features Camel Rock, Iron Furnace and Muddy Coal Mine, among others.
“I love taking photographs of familiar places in unexpected ways,” he said.
The award-winning advertising voice of Mississippi River Radio, Linsin is creative director and producer with the station. He lives in Carterville with his wife, Jennifer, and daughters, Jada, Maya and Elsa.
A reception for the artist will be hosted from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9. Admission is free. Come meet the artist and check out the fabulous photos. The Varsity bar will be open for cash purchases and features beer, wine, special cocktails and snacks.
The Varsity is at 418 S. Illinois Ave., in downtown Carbondale. To keep up with upcoming events, go to facebook.com/varsitycenter or thevarsitycenter.org.
