PEACE COALITION PEACE AND JUSTICE VIGIL SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 2019
This month’s vigil theme is: BUILD BRIDGES, NOT WALLS– PUT GOVERNMENT BACK TO WORK
The Peace Coalition of Southern Illinois/FOR Monthly Vigil for Peace and Justice will be held Saturday, February 2, Noon to 1 P.M. at the corner of Illinois Ave. and Main Street in Carbondale.
Walls drive wedges between communities. Bridges help span the gaps that separate and isolate. We are all stronger and more secure if society works for all. The prolonged federal government shutdown, demanding money for a border wall while ignoring the violence and oppressive conditions driving refugees to seek asylum, results in more insecurity for Americans. Congress must act to immediately reopen the government without exacerbating border militarization or immigrant detention.
Every day that the government is shut down, the negative impact on individuals and communities across the country worsens.
Appropriate signs will be provided, but all are invited to bring their own. The Peace Coalition Monthly Meeting will follow the Vigil at Cristaudo’s Café and Bakery.
