MAKANDA, Ill. – Take a break from the Holiday hustle and spend a little time at Giant City State Park
this December!
On Saturday, December 7th from 9-11 am join Vicki Lang-Mendenhall, Park volunteer and Southern
Illinois Audubon Society member, as she guides participants along the easy 1/3 mile accessible Post
Oak Trail to look for winter birds.
During the afternoon of Saturday, December 7th, Join the University of Illinois Extension for a fun and
free winter wreath-making workshop! There will be two sessions offered that visitors can sign up for,
1-2 or 2-3. All supplies will be provided.
Sunday, December 8th from 2-3 pm join Botanist Chris Benda (aka Illinois Botanizer) as he presents
photographs highlighting his best Illinois nature encounters of 2024.
All programs are free of charge but require registration as space is limited.

Giant City State Park is administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The mission of
the IDNR is to manage, conserve and protect Illinois’ natural, recreational and cultural resources,
further the public’s understanding and appreciation of those resources, and promote the education,
science and public safety of Illinois’ natural resources for present and future generations.
