Artspace 304 is buzzing with excitement as we announce the opening of this year’s Winter Market, located at the newly renovated Artspace on the Strip at 607 S Illinois Ave. The Winter Market will once again bring a burst of energy to the building’s gallery section.
The Winter Market at 607 will open on Thursday, October 17. In addition to our regular hours, we have a series of special events and activities planned for the shop, including artist meet-and-greets, trunk shows, and more. We will showcase diverse art forms, from paintings and sculptures to handmade crafts and jewelry. Regular hours are Tuesday through Friday, 11 am-6 pm, and Saturday, 11 am-4 pm, with extended holiday hours to be announced.
“This move is a testament to our unwavering commitment to the Arts & Entertainment District of Carbondale and the growth of our local and regional arts economy.” Chuck Benya, CEO and Executive Director of Artspace 304, emphasized. He added, “The larger retail space at Artspace on the Strip will allow us to fully integrate shop304 and enhance the offerings of our talented regional and statewide Illinois artists, all of which will be supported with a robust PR and promotional campaign of both digital and traditional marketing.”
Douglas Tippie, a 30-year retail professional, is heading the Winter Market. His extensive experience, from client-facing sales to executive positions, includes working with major fashion retailers such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Barneys New York, and Neiman Marcus. Asked why he accepted this position, Tippie said, “As a board member for an arts organization in Chicago, I developed a deep appreciation for the importance of the arts. This position combines my two passions and is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
Artspace 304 supports Southern Illinois’ diverse and vibrant cultural arts community by growing leadership, education, funding, connections, and regional economic development. This mission is funded by the generosity of the Illinois Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, the City of Carbondale, Illinois Humanities, and individual donations.
