Kevin Lucas to perform homeless fundraiser at Blue Sky Vineyard!
On Sunday, July 28, from 2 to 5 PM, percussionist Kevin Lucas will be performing his annual fundraiser for Good Samaritan House of Carbondale, hosted by Blue Sky Vineyard, in Makanda IL .  The event has drawn a lot of people and has grown year after year, bringing in annual revenue for the shelter.
“The homeless problem in southern Illinois has gotten much worse since the pandemic.  I don’t need stats.   If we just look around, we can see homeless people everywhere, and now it’s young people too.   And the shelters have less money to deal with and a rapidly increasing homeless population because of government funding cuts.   We can’t solve the world’s homeless problem, but we can do something about our local problem”, explained Kevin.
People can get there at 1 PM, an hour before the concert to make donations as well.   Donations are optional.  A representative from Good Samaritan House will be at Blue Sky.  Kevin is very appreciative of Blue Sky Vineyard for hosting the annual event.
Kevin Lucas has recently won multiple awards with Top 10 Billboard Folk Artist Grant Maloy Smith from Rhode Island.  This spring, their “Scarborough Fair (Reprise)” won ‘Best Music Video ” at the World Songwriting Awards.   The video was filmed on an island in the Atlantic Ocean in May of 2023.  It also won 4 Indie Music Channel Radio Awards, including “Best Folk Recording”.  “Getting the opportunity to work with Grant has been one of the greatest honors of my music career.  I’ve always loved folk music and Grant is among the best”,  explained Lucas.  “The Huffington Post called Kevin Lucas ‘the best percussionist since Lionel Hampton, Tito Puente, and Ginger Baker.’  A member of the Tonight Show Band said ‘Kevin Lucas has brought percussion to a new level, combining high level musicianship with a style that resembles mixed martial arts in intensity”-Illinois Presenters Network.
“As far as this homeless fundraiser, I hope more people will get involved.  We can make a difference, and every little thing we do to help this world creates a ripple effect like a stone landing in water and creating waves.   It spreads.  And it can start with us!” -Kevin Lucas
