The Peace Coalition of Southern Illinois will hold the Monthly Peace and Justice Vigil on Saturday, March 5, 2022, Noon to 1 P.M. at the corner of Main and Illinois Ave., Carbondale. The Peace Coalition joins the Global Days of Action to say No to War in Ukraine; Yes to Negotiations and Peace. Serious diplomacy, not posturing and aggressive rhetoric and actions, are urgently needed. The world cannot afford another twenty plus years of war and arms build-up as we face the overwhelming challenge of climate change and inequity which threaten us all.
All sides in this conflict must end hostilities and the death and destruction which has already occurred or could worsen with the current situation. If diplomacy does not lead us down another path, this conflict could escalate into war between nuclear powers, whether by miscalculation or mission creep, bringing a nightmare for the whole earth.
The vigil will follow masking and physical distancing guidelines as updated by the state. Appropriate signs will be provided, but all are invited to bring their own. The next monthly meeting will be held on ZOOM on March 16, 2022, 6pm. For information about joining, contact georgeannhartzog@gmail.com.
